Courses Selection and Registration

BC study abroad course guidelines require that you enroll in the early start intensive language course and that you take 12 semester credits.

Early start intensive language course

This course will help you to strengthen your Spanish language skills before diving into your academic semester. The course is for 3 credits. Students who do not pass the course with at least a 90 must enroll in a semester long Spanish language course as part of their 12 credit course load. Students who do not place at a B2 level after the Spanish course has concluded will need to enroll in a semester long Spanish course.

Semester courses

For your 12 credits of semester courses, students will take courses through the Programa de Estudios Latinoamericanos (PEL) at UCA or courses in English at UTDT . Some students take three courses that are four credits each, and others take four classes of three credits each.

Credit conversion

1 UCA/UTDT credit = 1 BC credit. In other words, 1 class credit/hour for a UTDT semester class is equivalent to 1 class credit at BC. Many courses are four credits, but there are a sizable amount of courses that are varying amounts of credits.

Attendance

In general, you must attend at least 75% of your classes to pass, but it would be wise to double-check this with your Academic Advisor as well as with each professor, since some policies may differ.
