Internship Placement Process

1- Submit application materials

Statement of Interest & Resume

Your one-page Statement of Interest should introduce yourself, share your internship interests and objectives, and explain why you are a compelling candidate for the type of internship you seek. The statement should be written in English or in Spanish for a general audience so that it can be shared with different types of internship companies and organizations. Together with your resume, it will be sent to potential hiring managers or supervisors so that they can determine if they would like to interview you. You can find many resources online about how to assemble a successful statement of interest, such as this article.

2- Share interests

Advising Call & Internship Interest Form

You will explore the Puentes Internship Portfolio so that you can identify the types of internship opportunities that most interest you and share your interests and preferences through the Puentes Internship Interest Form.  Later, you will schedule a one-on-one Advising Call with a Puentes team member to review your internship objectives and interests.  Please note that you may not necessarily interview with the sites that you list on your Internship Interest Form due to a variety of factors, such as the company’s availability, specific project requirements, and your related skills and experiences.

3- INTERVIEW

Interview Guide

We will begin the interview process once all interns for your cohort are confirmed and enrolled. Based on the Advising Call and your responses to the Internship Interest Form, we will share your profile with different companies and organizations that align with your areas of interest and where you would be a strong candidate. On a rolling basis, once a company confirms that they would like to interview you, we will introduce you directly to them. This process will take place through the end of April. We recommend that you review our Interview Guide during your interview preparation.

4- GIVE FEEDBACK & match

Internship Feedback Form

After the interview, we will request your feedback and the site’s feedback to see if there is a match of interests.  Please complete the Internship Feedback Form promptly upon the completion of your interview.

Once there is a match from you and a company or organization, we will confirm your internship placement and reconnect you with your future internship supervisor. If your first interview does not result in a match, we will explore another opportunity for you.

5- Define Project

Internship Work Agreement

Leading up to your internship, you and your supervisor will complete the Puentes Internship Work Agreement collaboratively, which will confirm your project, outline objectives, and align expectations for the internship. Your project may not be the same as the project discussed during your interview. It is possible that the priorities of your internship company may change between the time of your interview and your program start date. In Argentina and Uruguay, the professional setting may be less structured and more focused on the short term than in your home country, and this may require more flexibility from you when the time comes to define your project.

This project confirmation process also happens on a rolling basis between the time of the match and your program start date. Therefore some projects will be confirmed before others, and all projects will be fine-tuned during the first week of the internship.
