Student Visa Steps
Prior to your arrival to Argentina, you must obtain the student visa so that you can enter the country and stay for the semester to study. The student visa procedure is described on the Argentine Immigration website here. We are also providing a more user friendly summary below of the steps to take.
If you are entering Argentina on a passport from a country other then the U.S., contact us right away to check on the visa requirements for your time in Argentina.
Step 1. Prepare your personal documents (as soon as possible).
Assemble the following documents for your visa application:
Passport valid for a minimum of six months after your expected departure date from Buenos Aires, with at least two blank pages.
Copy of your family’s latest bank statement or credit card information to show proof of sufficient funds to cover your study expenses and stay in Buenos Aires.

Step 2. Receive the required visa documentation from UCA or UTDT.
The following documents will be emailed to you by UCA or UTDT:

Electronic filing of the student data (“precarga electrónica de datos”)
UCA/UTDT registration in RENURE (“inscripción en el Registro Nacional Único de Requirentes de Extranjeros” or “Constancia de Estudiante”)

Before submitting your online visa application, please send us a copy of all academic documents you receive from your local university so we can double check you have everything you need.
Step 3. Review the “Tramitación de ingreso electrónico TIE - 24H” Guide.
Before submitting the online visa application, review the TIE 24H guide in full so you know what to expect with the online application and ensure you are selecting the correct options.
Step 4. Submit the online visa application through the “Tramitación de ingreso electrónico TIE - 24H” system by January 5.
After our team has confirmed that your academic documents are in order, submit both steps of the online application here.
In step 1 of the online application, you will submit your personal information and payment. After step 1, you will be sent your credentials to log in for step 2. In step 2 of the online application, you will be asked to upload the personal and academic documentation that you have already gathered.
You will be asked to pay the Migraciones fee of US$80 during this online process. Make sure that you choose the correct visa type, listed as “Temporary residence in virtue of article 24 subsection h) of Law 25871 for the following activities: students (Provision 2040/19) or athletes, coaching staff, judges and/or members of delegations participating in amateur sporting events (Provision 1846-E/17).
You will be asked for your “tipo de solicitud” (type of request). You should select “Estudiante” (student).
As part of the online application, you will be asked for the length of stay. Please make sure that you list the duration of your stay for less than 180 days total. This is important because there are different documentation requirements for stays of over 180 days. You will also be asked about references and place of stay in Argentina. For references, list Madison Purnell, Senior Program Manager, madison@puentesabroad.com. For place of stay in Argentina, list our office address: Avenida Luis María Campos 877, Palermo, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, zip code 1426. Make sure the province you select is “Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires” and not “Buenos Aires.”
You will be asked to choose your local Argentine consulate. Select the New York City Consulate which is the local consulate for Boston College. Our team works closely with the New York City Consulate, so keep in mind that if you choose a different consulate, our team’s ability to help with future questions or concerns will be limited.
Reach out to the Puentes team if you have any questions as you are filling out the application.
Step 5. Let Puentes know when you have submitted both steps of the application.
After you have submitted both steps of the online application, let the Puentes team know so we can get in touch with the New York City Argentine Consulate to coordinate next steps.
Step 6. The New York City Argentine Consulate will review your application.
As part of the student application process, the consulate you select in your application (which should be the New York City Consulate) will review the application and contact you to pay the second part of the application fee.
Step 7. Receive your entrance permit by email.
Approximately 10 business days after you pay the fee to the New York City Argentine Consulate, you will receive your entrance permit by email. You will need to print this out and present it to Immigrations upon arrival to Argentina.
Once you receive your entrance permit, please submit a scanned copy or photo of it to Puentes. Thank you!
