Student Visa Steps
Prior to your arrival to Argentina, you must obtain the “Student Visa -365” so that you can enter the country and stay for the semester to study. The student visa procedure is described on the Argentine Immigration website here. We are also providing a more user friendly summary below of the steps to take.
If you are entering Argentina on a passport from a country other then the U.S., contact us right away to check on the visa requirements for your time in Argentina.
Step 1. Prepare your personal documents (as soon as possible)
Assemble the following documents for your visa application:
Passport valid for a minimum of six months after your arrival date in Buenos Aires, with at least one blank page. Also include a photocopy of the first page of your passport that has your picture on it.
One current 2x2 inches photograph, facing the camera, printed in color, on a white background.
Copy of your family’s bank statement or credit card information to show proof of sufficient funds to cover your study expenses and stay in Buenos Aires.
Completed visa application form, which can be filled in electronically and then printed and signed. Please make sure that you list the duration of your stay for less than 180 days total, keeping this in mind for your stated arrival and departure dates too. This is important because there are different documentation requirements for stays of over 180 days.
Question 26: References in Argentina (List Madison Purnell, Senior Program Manager, madison@puentesabroad.com)
Question 27: Place of stay in Argentina (List Recoleta, Buenos Aires)
Sworn oath of lack of a Criminal Record (“declaración jurada de carencia de antecedentes penales”). In the blank space on this document, please indicate that you are applying for the “Student Visa -365.”
Copy of your International SOS (ISOS) international health insurance provided by Boston College.
Prepaid, self-addressed return envelope from FedEx, with proof of payment of the shipping. Make sure that it is addressed to the address where you will be during the month prior to your departure for Argentina. This envelope is so the Argentine Consulate in New York City can send your passport to you once the passport has the visa stamp placed in it. Note that the Consulate only accepts return envelops from FedEx.
The cost of the student visa application is US$150. After your application has been submitted, you will be contacted by the consulate to coordinate the payment.
Step 2. Receive the required visa documentation from UCA or UTDT
The following documents will be emailed to you by UCA or UTDT:
Academic Program of Study (“programa de Estudios”)
Electronic filing of the student data (“precarga electrónica de datos”)
UCA/UTDT registration in RENURE (“inscripción en el Registro Nacional Único de Requirentes de Extranjeros”)
Letter of acceptance in English
Letter of acceptance in Spanish
Before submitting your visa application, please send us a copy of all academic documents you receive from your local university so we can double check you have everything you need.
Step 3. Send your passport and documentation to the NYC Consulate to arrive by June 1.
After our team has confirmed that your academic documents are correct, send all items listed in Step 1 and Step 2 (including your original passport, money order, and return FedEx envelop) to the New York City Consulate for Argentina so that they arrive by June 1, 2025, to the following address:
Consulate General of Argentina
Attention: Visa Department
12 West 56th Street
New York, NY 10019
Step 4. Virtual interview with the New York City Consulate for Argentina
Puentes has arranged for you to be able to have your visa interview with the NYC Consulate virtually by Skype, which means that you do not have to travel to New York City in order to have an in-person interview. This makes the process much simpler. We will arrange your virtual interview date and time for you with the NYC Consulate and then notify you of the confirmed date and time. For your virtual interview, please make sure that you are in a quiet place with good internet connection so that you do not have any issues with the call. It should be a brief conversation of about 15 minutes.
Step 5. Receive your visa by FedEx and submit a scanned copy to Puentes
After your virtual interview, your visa will be processed, and your passport will be shipped back to you in the prepaid, self-addressed FedEx return envelop that you will have provided. Once you get your visa by FedEx, please submit a scanned copy or photo of the page of your passport with the visa to Puentes in response to the email form submission that we send you. Thank you!
